Reset Account Password

You may reset the password at Technical Team Office (SHB1001) or send the request to techteam[@]cse.cuhk.edu.hk using your @Link (@link.cuhk.edu.hk) email address.

Change Account Password

Please connect to CSE VPN first, then follow the guideline in CSE Intranet to change your account password.

Accessing CSE Servers Outside (setting up Enhanced OpenVPN)

OpenVPN is a SSL VPN service that allows users to securely connect to the CSE network from outside, and enables them to access internal servers or restricted websites. Feedbacks from CSE users indicate that OpenVPN is more accessible in Mainland China.

If you have difficulties using  Openvpn in Mainland China, you may consider to apply CUHK VPN add-on service.

Effective from 31 Aug 2020, only one login session is allowed. If you need more CSE VPN Connection, please use IPSec VPN.

If the connection fails, please update to the latest version of OpenVPN.

  • Install OpenVPN Connect Client
    • Windows & macOS: use browser and download the client from

  • Please begin by setting up Duo 2FA, followed by downloading the user profile:
  1. Access https://openvpn2.cse.cuhk.edu.hk
  2. Log in with your CSE username and password
  3. A QR code will appear upon your first login
  4. If the QR code does not appear or has expired, you may delete the existing token and generate a new one.
    1. Click Delete
    2. Click Enroll Token
  5. In the Duo application, click ‘Add’ and then select ‘Use QR Code’ 

Connect to VPN Server

  1. Once completed, log in again to https://openvpn2.cse.cuhk.edu.hk, and from the top bar or menu, select ‘Download Ovpn
  2. Execute OpenVPN Connect
  3. Select the profile to connect
  4. Please launch the Duo application and select the one-time passcode(OTP). Note that the OTP is automatically updated every 30 seconds and each OTP can only be used once.
  5. Please enter your CSE username along with your Linux account password combined with the 6‑digit one-time passcode(OTP). For instance, if your CSE password is 12345678 and the OTP is 394384, you should input 12345678394384.Click OK

Accessing CSE Servers Outside (setting up IPsec VPN) – For most of the platform like Windows, IOS

IPsec VPN service allows users to securely connect to CSE network from outside, and enables them to access internal servers or restricted websites. Please note that IPsec VPN cannot be used in mainland China. Additionally, if you are using CUHK’s Global Protect, you will not be able to use IPsec VPN.

    • Enter URL: https://openvpn.cse.cuhk.edu.hk
    • Login with your CSE username and Linux account password
    • Download the profile under Available Connection Profiles
    • Import the downloaded file to OpenVPN Client
    • Login with your CSE username and Linux account password

Connect to VPN Server

Execute OpenVPN Connect

Select the profile to connect

Enter your CSE username and Linux account password

Click OK
