The abstract of the presentation is as follows:

With Wikipedia being one of the most prominent showcases, wikis are gaining popularity as web-based tools for knowledge creation, organizational coordination, and collaborative content management.  What makes wikis so attractive to be used in a community's technological infrastructure?  This talk will explore the wikis by tracing the historical path leading to Web 2.0, highlighting some important features, outlining the underlying architecture and system components, and pointing out some emerging technical and social issues relating to building, deploying, and using wikis.
