Abstract

Social Computing has become an integral part of our daily life in the cyberspace ever since the advent of Web 2.0. The proliferation of websites that focus on social networking, social media, and collective intelligent, has attracted energetic entrepreneurs as well as top researchers to develop techniques, algorithms, services, and applications, in the new social informatics era against the backdrop of big data. This talk will provide an overview of recent activities related to web intelligence and social computing from our group. More specifically, they include computational techniques for social recommendations, question and answering, human computation/crowdsourcing, on-line learning, etc.

Research Interests

Irwin King's research interests include machine learning, social computing, web intelligence, data mining, and multimedia information processing.
