Managing disks

Managing disks involves adding new disk, creating disk partitions, formatting (create filesystem) disk partitions, fixing filesystem, mounting and unmounting filesystem.

In Linux, IDE harddisk naming is totally different from that of DOS/Windows:

tabular110

After you've plugged in your harddisk, you need to do a list of things before you can use it on Linux:

  1. Partitioning of harddisk according to your needs
  2. Making filesystems
  3. Mounting (manual or automatic)
