For students
Recommendation letters
I consider graduate-school recommendation requests from students whom I know well enough to write a detailed and useful letter.
Eligibility
Please approach me only if you meet at least three conditions:
- You earned an A in CSCI 2100/ESTR 2102, CSCI 3160, CSCI 5010, CSCI 5610, or CMSC 5724.
- You completed your FYP with me, earning two grades of A− or above, including at least one A.
- You completed an MSc project with me and earned an A.
- You represented CUHK in the world final of the ACM programming contest.
- You are a CSE undergraduate with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.7 across all courses.
- You have other compelling evidence of preparation for graduate study, such as a core contribution to a reputable publication.
Before you write
A strong letter takes considerable time. Please make your request courteously and include enough context for me to understand your plans.
- I can write only a small number of letters each year, so I must decline many requests.
- Expect a 30-minute interview with technical questions assessing your computer-science foundation.
- I can submit a letter to at most ten graduate programs.
