UG Student Has Been Awarded 1st runner up in the Smart Campus Solution Competition

LEI Hei Tung, an undergraduate Computer Engineering (CE) student and XIAN, Yi Fan, an undergraduate Artificial Intelligence – Systems & Technologies (AIST) student from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and their teams, received the 1st runner up in the Smart Campus Solution Competition. The award-winning project develop innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the learning experience for local students.

Objective:
A team of undergraduate students (LEI Hei Tung,  ZENG Nuomin, LAM Cheuk Lok and XIAN Yi Fan) has embarked on a mission to develop innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the learning experience for local students. Their project was inspired by a common challenge faced by many of their peers—difficulty in grasping key concepts during lessons, which often leads to falling behind.

Several external factors contribute to this issue, such as the size of lecture halls, the accents of professors, and students’ limited attention spans during lengthy lectures. Missing a crucial concept can result in confusion throughout the rest of the session, ultimately causing frustration.

Solution Developed:
To tackle this problem, the team created a real-time transcription application called NoteWave. This tool converts professors’ spoken words into text, enabling students to revisit missed points during lectures and stay aligned with the lesson.

How It Works:
NoteWave functions similarly to platforms like Zoom. Professors initiate the recording on their devices, and students can view the live transcripts on their screens. The application is enhanced with AI-powered summarization, which not only captures the lecture content but also generates concise and accurate transcripts. This feature helps minimize transcription errors, thereby improving comprehension and reducing learning-related stress.
