Twin Wins in IBM Inter-University Programming Contest 2012

The outstanding teams from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, have snatched both the Championship and 2nd runner up in the IBM Inter-University Programming Contest 2012, ( http://www-07.ibm.com/hk/programming_contest_2012/), held in Central, Hong Kong on 11 Februrary 2012. Our teams led by Prof. Hanqiu Sun have demonstrated extensive software knowledge, great team spirit and efficient problem-solving skills in the IBM Inter-University Programming contest this year. Our twin-win teams have competed among the universities in Hong Kong and Macau (5 teams from each university). The Champion team is awarded a HK$30,000 cash award and a Champion Trophy, plus 3-month summer internship at IBM for each team member. The 2nd runner up team receives a HK$9,000 cash award and a 2nd runner up Trophy.

The Inter-University Programming Contest, hosted by IBM for the fifth consecutive years, aims at sharpening the students’ programming skills and team work through the real-life computing practices. A set of programming questions and real-life problems is given out to the university teams to solve within two hours. The teams that scores the highest marks in the shortest time will be the champion at the contest.
