The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is thrilled to announce that our very own Professor Irwin King has been elected a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). This is one of the more significant honors in the field of AI, and we could not be prouder of his accomplishments.
The announcement was made at the annual AAAI conference in Singapore in January 2026. Professor King was selected as one of only twelve fellows worldwide this year and is the only one based in Hong Kong. The AAAI recognized him for his “significant contributions to the theory and applications of machine learning in social computing,” a field where his work has had a profound impact.
The AAAI, founded by pioneers of artificial intelligence, established the Fellows program in 1990 to recognize researchers who have made long-lasting and influential contributions to the field. To be named a Fellow is a mark of true distinction and leadership.
This latest honor adds to an already impressive list of accolades for Professor King, who is also a Fellow of the ACM, IEEE, and INNS. His leadership and innovative research are a cornerstone of our department and a source of inspiration for our students and faculty alike.
Please join us in congratulating Professor King on this outstanding and well-deserved recognition!
