Yimin Fan, a 3rd year PhD candidate supervised by Professor Yu Li in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, has been awarded the highly competitive 2025 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Basic Research Scheme for PhD Students, with funding of RMB 300,000 over two years. His project, “Interpretable Drug Mechanism of Action Analysis Based on Multimodal Diffusion Models and Large Language Model Agents,” lies at the intersection of AI and biomedicine and aims to leverage generative models and LLM agents to improve the efficiency and interpretability of drug screening and accelerate drug discovery.
The NSFC Basic Research Scheme for PhD Students was first established in 2023 to support outstanding doctoral students in independently leading research projects as principal investigators, fostering their ability to conduct independent fundamental and interdisciplinary research.
