Prof. Songtao Lu has received an Amazon Research Award under the Fall 2025 Build on Trainium: Responsible AI programme for his project, “M3-Align: Scalable Multilevel & Multiobjective Alignment for Multilingual Language Models,” as [announced by Amazon on 5 August 2026]. He is among 34 recipients from 30 universities worldwide, with proposals selected for their scientific quality and potential academic and societal impact. Prof. Lu’s research group aims to develop novel, theoretically grounded and scalable optimisation methods that connect pretraining, adaptation and alignment to improve AI generalisation and reasoning. By enabling more effective knowledge transfer across tasks, domains and languages, the research could advance Cantonese speech and language technologies and support more inclusive AI applications in Hong Kong.
