Towards SmartNICs in Data Center Systems
Dr. Bojie Li
Huawei 2012 Labs
In modern data centers, the performance of general-purpose processors lags behind network, storage, and customized computing hardware. However, network and storage infrastructure mainly uses software processing on general-purpose processors, which becomes a bottleneck. We leverage SmartNICs to accelerate network functions, data structure, and communication primitives in cloud data centers, thus achieving full-stack acceleration of network and storage. In this talk, we will also propose a new SmartNIC architecture which is tightly integrated with the host CPU, enabling a large, disaggregated memory with the SmartNICs being a programmable data plane.
Dr. Bojie Li is a Senior Engineer with Huawei 2012 Labs. In 2019, he obtained Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). His research interest is data center network and systems. He has published papers in SIGCOMM, SOSP, NSDI, ATC, and PLDI. He has received the ACM China Doctoral Dissertation Award and Microsoft Research Asia PhD Fellowship.
