The increasing design complexity of Very Large Scale Integrated circuits (VLSI) and Application Specific Integrated circuits (ASIC) has brought significant and new challenges to this field. Performance issues like power, manufacturability, variation, etc., impacting the effective scaling of the next generation computer designs and microprocessors, are major concerns in this area.
