Silicon Valley became a synonymous for technology and innovation. It started from a small area and grew to become the “center of the tech world” (Business Insider) in 100 years. This area is crowded with startups, venture capitalists, talented engineers, and of course some of the biggest technology companies in the world.

This presentation aims to provide a general background about Silicon Valley, and answer questions such as: how did this area become Silicon Valley, the key groups, people, companies, startups that involved in its transformation; what is currently happening in Silicon Valley in terms of investments and entrepreneurship; implications for younger generations - how can young people/students start their careers in innovation, technology, entrepreneurship and so on.



Wei is an active early-stage investor in Silicon Valley. He has invested in over 300 Silicon Valley startups. He was one of the few to be cited as a “China Whisperer” by the Washington Post, and was one of the first Chinese investors to be featured on The Information. In 2016, Wei was listed as one of the Global Top 20 Best Cross-Border Early-Stage Investors by ChinaVenture as well as honored as the Most Active Angel Investor by ZAngels. In 2017, In 2017, UpHonest Capital was listed as Top 50 Chinese Best Early-Stage Investment Companies, Wei was ranked as the #1 angel investor in Artificial Intelligence by VentureBeats and was recognized under both the Venture Capital and Big Money Startups categories of the Forbes 30 Under 30. In 2018, Wei was ranked as the #3 top 50 angel investors by Forbes, and was recognized as 40 under 40 by Chuangyebang.
