Congratulations to our CE team "Phoenix" including members LEE Koon Kit, LEE Ching Ching, CHEUNG Wan Ho and YING Peilin won the First Place in "Samsung Hope for Children App Creation Competition". The objective of this competition is to create an App that would serve as a training tool for children with speech difficulty to learn and communicate better.

Having noticed some children in Hong Kong are being diagnosed with speech delay, Samsung therefore has decided to use Smart Learning as the theme for this year's Samsung Hope for Children program. Partnered with ACM-HK, the organizers created the first Samsung Hope for Children App Creation Competition. Local university students majoring Computer Science were recruited in June to design a meaningful and stimulating App by virtue of contributing to the learning and therapeutic environment of children with speech delay in Hong Kong.

Before the commencement of the competition, students visited beneficiary organization, Benji's Centre, to understand the needs of children with speech difficulties through sharing by speech therapists. In addition, Samsung invited an experienced app developer to hold a workshop, teaching students basic skills of developing Android app and things to note when designing education app tailored to speech difficulty children. After three months of development, contesting groups from Hong Kong Baptist University, School of Continuing and Professional Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology completed their app by end of October.

Name of App: Children Learning Fun

About the App: Children Learning Fun is created to help prove children with speech delay's interest towards learning and to broaden the tools available for their therapy. The?App focuses on the language learning process of children, and seeks to develop student's knowledge towards shape, color and related ocabularies through its games. The games encourage children to interact with their parents; it is intended to foster communication, improve speaking skills and to prevent learning barriers.
