B.Sc. in Computer Science (CSCIN)

The Computer Science (CSCIN) programme was launched by The Department of Computer Science and Engineering more than 30 years ago. It is accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and has gained an international reputation for excellent research and teaching.

Over the years, we have built up a strong alumni network in the computer industry of Hong Kong. Many of our graduates have taken up important positions in various organizations and companies, such as the Hong Kong Government, Intel, Microsoft, IBM and Google. Through this network, our CSCIN graduates can enjoy a comparative advantage in professional career development. Apart from choosing to work in the industry, some graduates have entered our postgraduate programmes or similar programs in world-renowned universities overseas for postgraduate education.

The CSCIN programme covers the following areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Big Data Analytics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Computer and Network Security
  • Computer Systems and Networking
  • Computer-aided Design
  • Databases
  • Digital Hardware Technologies
  • Information Systems
  • Internet
  • Multimedia Technology
  • Programming Languages
  • Software Engineering
  • Theoretical Computer Science

The CSCIN programme is now under the broad-based admission through Engineering (JS4401 / BERGN). Students will be invited to declare their preference and be allocated into one of the six major programmes after the completion of Year 1 study.

Local applicants with associate degree / high diploma qualifications can also apply for the Senior Year admission. Normally, we expect the applicants to have achieved an overall GPA ≥ 3.0 (or equivalent), and have fulfilled the University’s language requirements. Preference will be given to those who have performed well in mathematics and relevant disciplines. Successful applicants will be admitted directly to the CSCIN major programme.

Please visit the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid for more details.

CSCIN / IBBA Double Degree Option

The double-degree Computer Science / Integrated Business Administration option is open to students who have qualified for admission to both programmes. Following the successful completion of a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, students can continue their studies for an additional year to gain a BBA degree.
