The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Tsinghua University (THU) will collaborate to offer a Dual Degree Programme (DDP) in Computer Science. Students will spend the first two years in CUHK and the final two years in THU. Hence, this DDP provides students with the opportunities to widen their horizon through immersing in a different learning environment, while pursuing two degrees at the same time. The first intake is expected to be admitted to the CUHK in the academic year 2022-23.
CUHK and THU have been achieving high in various universities rankings for years: CUHK is ranked 8th and THU is ranked 3rd in Asia in the QS World University Rankings 2021 in Computer Science; CUHK is ranked 8th and THU is ranked 1st in Asia in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings in Computer Science. Faculty members have been devoting to the academic excellence. They have been highly recognized in the computer science professions, including the Turing Award, ACM Fellows, IEEE Fellows, members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, etc.
CUHK has had a long-term collaboration with THU since 1985. This newly established DDP will further use the education resources to deepen the collaboration and help bring out students of distinction. It combines the strengths of two leading universities and is designed to nurture world-class computer scientists and future leaders of the industry. Upon graduation, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Computer Science from CUHK and a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Computer Science from THU in four years.

These two programmes in this DDP complement each other and equip their students with an international perspective as well as the necessary analytical tools and knowledge to launch their careers related to the computer science professions.

Interested applicants seeking admission based on the HKDSE examination results should first submit their applications via JUPAS. Then, they should place the Computer Science and Engineering (JS4412) in Band A of your programme choices, and then submit an online application form to the CSE department before July 2022. They should also attach necessary supporting documents as required for a holistic review. Applicants will be invited for interviews in June or August.

Local applicants with other qualifications can apply through the "non-JUPAS admission" scheme. These qualifications include Associate Degree/Higher Diploma, HKALE, GCE, IB, SAT/AP and other overseas qualifications for university admission. Non-local students who require a student visa to study in Hong Kong can apply through this scheme. The applicants must possess relevant high-school or post-secondary qualifications, which include GCE-AL, IB, SAT/AP (USA), GSAT (Taiwan), OSSD (Canada), and ATAR (Australia). Applicants will be considered on the basis of their education background and academic achievements. To make the applications more competitive, applicants are expected to demonstrate outstanding abilities in English, mathematics and science subjects. Shortlisted students will be invited for interview.

Depending on students’ financial situation, or their outstanding performance in academic or other areas, the Government and the University may provide various scholarships and financial aid schemes to support the student’s learning in CUHK.
