MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dear Colleagues, Alumni, Students, Staff, and Friends,

We are pleased to present the latest edition of our quarterly newsletter, in which we share recent achievements, recognitions, events, and personnel changes in our computer science department.

Firstly, we would like to congratulate our students and faculty members on their outstanding contributions and accomplishments over the past few months. We are proud to recognize Professors Jiaya Jia, Evangeline Young, Jimmy Lee, and Yu Li for their hard work, which has earned them several awards and recognitions from renowned institutions and organizations.

We are also excited to announce that our department has organized several successful events, including seminars and guest lectures. Our Outstanding Alumni Seminar Series (OASiS) kicked off with a talk from Prof. Jing Qin on deep learning models for medical image analysis, followed by a talk from Prof. Raymond Wong on an interactive system for finding favorite tuples in databases. These events provided our students and faculty members with opportunities to interact with experts from diverse fields and to learn about cutting-edge research and technologies. Moreover, these talks highlight the achievements of our past students in research.

As you are aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in our daily lives, and our department has not been immune to these changes. However, we are proud to say that our faculty members and students have adapted well to the new normal and have continued to pursue their academic and research goals while adhering to safety guidelines. With the mask-off policy, we are enjoying a more normal teaching and learning environment on campus now.

Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce our new faculty members and bid farewell to those who have moved on to new endeavors. We are grateful for their contributions to our department and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

We hope that you enjoy reading this newsletter and stay informed about the latest happenings in our computer science department.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to HKCS and the IT community, and for significant achievements and standing in his area of work.

Research Excellence

CASP (Critical Assessment of Structure Prediction) is a community-wide experiment to determine and advance state of the art in modeling macromolecular structures from sequences.

The work demonstrates that artificial intelligence does not just mimic humans but can assist people in solving healthcare problems that humans are temporarily unable to.
