In the past, we were concerned with accessibility to and from places and destinations. Well-connected roads and motorways were the prime factors in transportation (road) systems. These days, information technology and mobile communications have penetrated our transportation systems, resulting in what we called "information-driven", "knowledge-based", and "wirelessly-enabled" superhighways.
Cars are no longer excelling in their electronics and motoring capabilities. They are now equipped with advanced communication systems, offering navigation, roadside, and emergency services. Ad hoc mobile communications and networking technologies have allowed cars to "talk" to one another, resulting in "car-to-car" communication networks which can potentially revolutionalize the way we drive, commute, shop, entertainment, etc., in the future. This new "platform" of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) will need to engage key players from automotive, telecomms, and computing industries.
In this talk, I shall present the issues, technologies, aspects of traffic theory, and future research challenges associated with this new paradigm of wireless car2car communication networks.
