Dempster-Shafer (D-S) theory is an important formal theory for managing uncertainty. This talk investigates two problems in this theory by justifying Dempster's rule of combination under Shafer's interpretation of belief functions. The first problem, as Kyburg has pointed out, is that there is a paradox in D-S theory if some basic probability assignments are combined by Dempster's rule of combination. The second one is related to Shafer's definition of Bayesian belief function, Bel.
