Yu Wang obtained his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Fudan University, China, and became my PhD student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in August 2017. On 13 May 2019, news came that he had passed away in Guangzhou after a long-time battle against his fatal disease. Everyone in the department was shocked by his untimely death and saddened by the loss of a truly talented young man who will be fondly missed. His study at CUHK was short - only 13-month long before his health status forced him to take a sick leave in Sep 2018 - but he made important contributions to a SoCG'19 paper that he co-authored with me (SoCG is a prestigious conference on the theory of computational geometry). The analytical skills he demonstrated during our numerous discussions were exceptional. Equally impressive was how he managed to retain his modest personality even at the realization that he had gained much deeper knowledge in computer science than most people at his age. He is now at a very beautiful place continuing the work he did not have time to finish.
