Mesh Map forming from 2D Floor plan Image

In this project, we try to build a 3D mesh which can accurately reflect the
construct of a building from its floor plan only. For example, given the floor
plan image above, a 3D mesh is
reconstructed as the image shown below.

To extract the internal features, we try two approaches. The first approach use a block based algorithm which is being performed through human intervention. This approach is published in the GTech conference in 2001. Another approach is a highly automated one which use a directed edges approach.

Hardware Accelerated Image Based Rendering
In view of the great processing power of next generation graphics accelerator, for example nVidia GeForce FX, ATI Radeon 9800 etc., it can be speculated that many stunning effects which are difficult to realize in real time can now be displayed in interactive speed. In this project, we demonstrated how to take advantage of the current generation graphics accelerator (GeForce 3 or above) to produce a re-lighting effect on complex scene.
The screenshots below showed the relighting of the Forbidden City. This is a collaborated work with Tien-tsin Wong.
