Covent Garden, Walthamstow and the Royal Albert Hall (mainly photos)
Went to see Siegfried at Covent Garden, one of my top 4 favourites from the Ring cycle. The production was under Keith Warner, designer Stefanos Lazaridis and music director Antonio Pappano. John Tomlinson was great as Wotan and he has sung both in Bayreuth (under Barenboim) and Covent Garden (under Haitink). Lisa Gasteen was an excellent Brünnhilde but I did not feel John Treleaven was very good as Siegfried. Also, didn't like the contemporary setting, the first scene was staged under a plane wreck. Also went fishing at Walthamstow and took some out-of-focus sunrise photos. I call them my impressionist images.
Finally, went to listen to an organ recital by Dame Gillian Weir at the Royal Albert Hall. It was the first solo recital since the organ was restored. I've never heard an organ of this size before. It was very impressive, the whole ground shaking when the low notes were played. Only one thing spoilt it, whenever I see someone play the organ, I can't help getting images of an evil scientist playing in their dungeon before attempting to take over the world.
Here are the photos.

Meon Springs
Fished Meon Springs yesterday. It was my first fishing trip in the UK and my first experience fishing a managed, stocked fishery. Went with Tero Rissa who got this excellent 6.5 pound hen rainbow trout. A good place to take someone flyfishing for the first time but those stocked fish behave very differently to wild ones. A bit like shooting fish in a barrel though, think I'll try Grafham Water next - at least you can see it on the map.
Here are some pictures. Ate the fish with Prof Wayne Luk and my ex-students, here are the pictures.
