Volume Sculpting in Virtual Reality
(H. Sun)

Volume Sculpting developed a free-form interactive modelling technique based on the concept of sculpting a voxel-based solid material, such as a block of marble or wood, using 3D voxel-based tools. This project will study and develop virtual volume-sculpting techniques with haptic interaction. These would support modelling operations such as sawing, carving, painting, trimming, pasting and the like in the virtual space. Virtual sculpting tools to be developed would be useful in scientific and medical applications, in which scientists and physicians often need to explore the inner structure of their simulated and sampled datasets by gradually removing material to reveal an interior section of interest.
