Towards a Uniform Approach to Video Short Segmentation (M. C. Lee)
Digital video data are now almost everywhere. To facilitate browsing and retrieving video contents effectively from a huge volume of video, the video sequence should be first partitioned into its constituent shots. Each shot represents a continuous sequence of actions; and a shot transition refers to the changes between two consecutive shots. It specifies how the former shot is transformed temporally into the latter one. There are different types of transitions available; there is a need to identify such transition effects in the video shots in order to segment the shots successfully. There are now different methods proposed to segment shots with different transitions. There is not any single method which can cope with the different transition types. This project proposes a single method based on a uniform approach for segmenting cost-effectively video sequences, with various transition effects, into the constituent shots.
