Fundamental Understanding and Counter Measures to Distributed Denial-of-Service

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) is known to be a major mechanism to bring down some well-known Internet services. Recently, many major companies (e.g., CNN, Microsoft and even the US government) have experienced the DDoS attack on their computing infrastructures. In this study, we aim to understand the fundamental issues on how to counter-attack DDoS and at the same time, allow major Internet sites to still support a minimum degree of Internet services to regular users even under the DDoS attack.
