Admission

According to the University Regulations, applicants seeking admission to a course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree of the University shall have satisfied the minimum entrance requirements of the University and the programme concerned. There are two possible ways to satisfy the entrance requirements: based on the A-level examinations results or on the strength of other qualifications.

Admission on the Strength of Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Results

Minimum University requirements for application

Applicants must

  1. obtain in one sitting of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination grade E or above in at least seven subjects including two language subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, French or German); and
  2. obtain in one or more sittings of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination grade E or above in:
    1. Advanced Supplementary Level Chinese Language and Culture; * and
    2. Advanced Supplementary Level Use of English; and
    3. at least two Advanced Level subjects, or one Advanced Level and two Advanced Supplementary Level subjects.

Additional requirements of programmes

Applicants for both Computer Engineering programme and Computer Science programme must also satisfy the following additional requirements:

  1. Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination Requirements
    1. Good grades in Chinese Language and English Language;
    2. Good grades in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and two other science subjects.
  2. Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Requirements:
    1. Grade E or above in at least three Advanced Level subjects (preferred), or two Advanced Level and one Advanced Supplementary Level subjects;
    2. Grade E or above in
      1. Advanced Level Pure Mathematics or Advanced Level Physics; and
      2. any other two science subjects.

Admission on the Strength of Qualifications Other Than Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Results

Minimum University requirements for application

Applicants shall be eligible to apply for admission if they

  1. have obtained in one sitting of the GCE Advanced Level Examination pass grades in no less than three subjects; or
  2. have acquired an International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
  3. possess a qualification obtained outside Hong Kong which qualifies them for University admission in the country/region where such a qualification is obtained; or
  4. possess a Matriculation Certificate of The Chinese University of Hong Kong issued in 1978 or before; or
  5. have obtained in one sitting of the Hong Kong Higher Level Examination grade E or above in no less than five subjects including Chinese Language & Literature and English Language; or
  6. have completed at least one year of undergraduate study at a recognized university; or
  7. are pursuing medical studies in an institution recognized for full registration by the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom (for transfer to Clinical Studies in the Faculty of Medicine); or
  8. are mature persons aged 23 or over on 1st September in the year when admission is sought, provided:
    1. they are able to show either by publication or by other acceptable evidence that they have achieved sufficient competence in their chosen field of study to justify admission; or have shown exceptional ability in appropriate academic or professional fields; and
    2. they can produce evidence of continuous residence in Hong Kong for at least three years; or
  9. have other exceptional abilities which merit admission.

They shall also have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in both the Chinese and English languages.

Criteria for selection

Applicants shall be considered on the basis of their educational background and academic achievements. If they are invited to attend an interview, their performance at the interview will also be taken into consideration.


* Subject to fulfilling the following conditions, JUPAS applicants may, at the discretion of the Faculty Deans concerned, be granted waivers of the Chinese language admission requirement: The applicants concerned (i) should NOT have taken the Chinese Language subject in HKCEE and (ii) should have obtained grade E or above in the French or German subject in HKCEE, and (iii) should have obtained grade E or above in 1 other AL/AS subject as a substitute for the AS Chinese Language and Culture subject .
