Two projects of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of CUHK
were awarded the First Prize in the National Undergraduate Electronic
Design Contest 2006. One of them outperformed 158 projects from over
70 national and Asian universities and won the prestigious award - Intel
Cup.
The projects, namely "Follow Me Robot" and "Intelligent Office Assistant",
were awarded the First Prize, and the "Follow Me Robot" won the
prestigious award - Intel Cup. "Follow Me Project" has the features
of face recognition and motion tracking which is able to first recognize
its master's face and then follow him. "Intelligent Office
Assistant" aims at helping a business executive to effectively collect and
organize the information he encounters in everyday work. The system can
capture video, audio, text and image data, and can also be accessed
online.
Coorganized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Information
Industry, the competition was held at Shanghai in August this year.
Apart from the famous national universities like Peking University,
Tsinghua University and Fudan University etc, universities from Singapore,
the Philippines, India, Malaysia and a few Hong Kong universities were
also invited to participate in the competition.

The project "Virtual Acupuncture V" won the First Award of the
9th Challenge Cup held at Fudan University, Shanghai in 2005.
Another project "The Chinese University Plagiarism
Identification Engine System (CUPIDE)" also won the Third
Award. The bi-annual Challenge Cup is considered the premier
national competition of extra-curricular technological projects
of university students. It pools the best young innovative
brains from all corners of China.
Virtual Acupuncture V constructs a detailed virtual
acupuncture digital human model based on ultra-high resolution
Chinese Visible Human dataset. It provides an intelligent
virtual environment for Chinese acupuncture training and an
interactive platform for research into the clinical and
therapeutic handling of diseases.
CUPIDE is a new generation plagiarism detection software
designed for promoting and upholding academic honesty in
academic institutions.
