Path planning has a lot applications from traditional robotics to modern auto-driving, from surgical operation to heavy lifting. This talk will concern several issues related to path planning. Image and data capturing will be first discussed before the introduction of Point Cloud based analysis. Path planning problem is then described. This is followed by the elaboration of its Mathematics Optimization as well as AI enabled solution approach. Next, High Performance GPU Computing will then be briefed aiming to achieve real-time or almost real-time path planning solution. Heavy crane lifting for construction and petrochemical industries will be used as a case study throughout this talk.
Dr. Yiyu Cai has been doing interdisciplinary research on Virtual Reality, Robotics, and their applications in Medicine, Engineering, Education, etc. His research is supported by both academic and industry such as Singapore's National Research Foundation, Temasek Trust Funded Singapore Millennium Foundation, Ministry of Education, A*Star Science and Engineering Research Council and Bio-medical Imaging Consortium, Housing Development Board, etc. He has 7 international patents invented. Currently, with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Professor Cai heads the Computer-aided Engineering Labs and directs The Strategic Research Program of VR and Soft Computing. He is a member of The Robotics Research Centre in NTU. He is former co-president of International Simulation and Gaming Association.
