ABSTRACT:

I will present our new progress on noncoding RNA (ncRNA) identification in plant genomes. It combines a large amount of expression data, epigenetics data, RNA secondary-structure stability, and evolutionary conservation at the protein and nucleic-acid level. Using this model, we were able to separate known ncRNAs from coding sequences and other genomic elements with high accuracy, and find thousands of novel ncRNA candidates in Arabidopsis. Many of them are co-expressed with proteins involved in protein modification, apoptosis and stimulus response. In addition, I will also mention another project about protein binding RNAs. We are analyzing the structures of many RNA fragments sequenced by CLIP.

BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Zhi John Lu is an assistant professor at the School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University. His lab is working on noncoding RNA prediction and characterization in plant and cancer samples. He is especially interested in analyzing CLIP data and structured noncoding RNAs bound by proteins.
