Dr. Connie Yuen is the Open Source Evangelist in Linux Foundation Asia Pacific (LF APAC). She was the Associate Professor and Head in the Department of Applied Data Science at Hong Kong Shue Yan University in Hong Kong, China. She was one of the core members in establishing the First Science Department and developing the First Bachelor of Science programme (BSc-Applied Data Science) in the university. She was the programme director of the BSc-Applied Data Science. Under her leadership, the First two cohort students in BSc-Applied Data Science received a number of awards in competitions and participated in several indoor and outdoor exhibitions. At the same university, she was also the Founding Director of Big Data Laboratory, the Founding Director of Virtual Reality Laboratory and the Founding Director of Social Robotics & Digital Living Laboratory. She received several research grants from the University Grants Committee (UGC, Hong Kong) (over HKD $12.8 M). Among them, she is the Principal Investigator of two research grants.

Dr. Yuen received her B.Sc. degree in Computer Studies and her M.Phil. degree in Information Technology at City University of Hong Kong and her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her PhD supervisors are Prof. Irwin King and Prof. K. S. Leung. Before her appointment as an Assistant Professor in 2019, Dr. Yuen has over 10 years’ teaching experience at tertiary education and working on various research projects at different universities. She is an IEEE Senior Member (SMIEEE), an ACM Senior Member (SMACM), a Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) recognized by Engineering Council, a Member of Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and a Member of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). Dr. Yuen’s research interests include advanced technologies adoption, crowdsourcing, human computation, big data application, data mining, machine learning and computer network.
